Busan

Located on Korea's south east coast, Busan is the country's second largest city.  Whilst it is an industrial city and is home to Korea's largest port, it has become a popular destination for hikers, foodies and beachgoers.

How to get there:

By train: In my opinion, the best way to travel to Busan from Seoul is by KTX train. You can depart from Seoul Station and, depending on the route, it'll take around 2-3  hours. Ticket prices start at around 42,000 won (one way). I recommend that you book well in advance as tickets sell out pretty quickly for Fridays and weekends. Also make sure that you can book a return ticket (I have made this mistake before!) as Sundays in particular sell out really fast.

By bus: You can take an Express bus from the Seoul Nambu Bus Terminal to Busan Seobu Sasang Bus Terminal. It will take longer than the train, around 4.5 hours, but tickets are slightly cheaper. Prices are set depending on the bus company that is operating the service, but on average tickets start at around 38,300 won (one way). There is also another bus terminal, Busan Haeundae Intercity Bus Stop, close to Haeundae Beach. If you go to this bus terminal it will take closer to 5 hours and tickets start at around 40,600 won.

Where to stay

So if you are now considering a well-deserved break in Busan, I can recommend the hotel I stayed at during my visit. Denbaseuta Hotel Daehyeon Branch is in a great location, only a 20 minute bus ride or 24 minute subway journey to Gwangalli Beach.

Whilst the view is not much to be desired, the room certainly makes up for it! The standard double room was very spacious and spotlessly clean. The furniture and fixtures are modern and neutral which creates a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. A mini fridge, hairdryer, towels, slippers, bathrobes and basic facilities are provided, as well as a large TV that includes access to Netflix. The bathroom was very large and the fixtures and fittings gave a luxurious feel. I slept extremely well during my stay as the large bed was comfortable and the air conditioner kept the room cool. I think there must be some soundproofing in the room as I didn't hear a thing! The hotel has a small dining room at the top of the building which provides breakfast between 7am and 9am. There is also a coffee machine and microwave which can be used at any time. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and they do speak a little English.
